Shaw is easily one of D.C.’s most outgoing neighborhoods with its youthful residents, bustling local businesses and the lively 14th Street just nearby.
Some of D.C.‘s best chefs have been opening restaurants all throughout the city, and Shaw has had plenty new openings earlier in the year. This summer, there even more exciting additions to the Shaw restaurant scene:
Anxo Cidery & Pintxos Bar
D.C.‘s first cidery, Anxo Cidery & Pintxos Bar, opened in Shaw on July 13 and has D.C. residents from all over raving. It is also the city’s first licensed winery.
The restaurant holds a 660-gallon barrel on the bar’s first floor to naturally ferment the apples’ juice. The cider, however, is not your typical cider which is usually associated with beer, but is actually told to hold the sweetness of wine.
The restaurant has two bars that also offers other delectable drinks such as wine, cocktails, local beers and sherries and pintxos (snacks). The first floor is for those wishing to eat snack-sized dishes while enjoying a fresh cider. The second floor is for those who wish to have a heartier meal from the dining menu, such as cider-poached octopus with saffron potatoes.
Although Anxo already has so much to offer, they will continue to make amazing changes and additions, with extended hours, menu changes and patio service for the summer.
Anxos Cidery & Pintxos Bar. 300 Florida Ave., NW. 202-986-3795. Open Tuesday through Sunday from 5 PM to 12 AM, Friday and Saturday from 5 PM to 1 AM.
Hazel
Executive Chef Rob Rubba is excited to have opened his newest restaurant, Hazel, on June 27, according to his website.
Rubba and the Hazel team create his decadent dishes to match the exquisite designs of local and domestic artisans who handcrafted his plates and bread basket, as well as the range he uses to cook.
The restaurant has 38 seats, along with a 16-seat bar and a 38-seat patio. Hazel offers unique shareable dishes such as charcoal grilled summer squash, hamachi crudo and tasting menus that offer Peking-style duck and the chef’s favorite dishes.
Hazel is definitely a restaurant that Washingtonians will want to visit!
Hazel. 808 V St., NW. 202-847-4980. Opened everyday from 5 PM to 12 AM
HalfSmoke
HalfSmoke is an upcoming restaurant in the Shaw area which debuts in August. D.C. is known for their tasty half smoke sausages, and this restaurant is offering its freshest and tastiest ingredients.
With the motto, changing “fast” food in America, HalfSmoke is offering fresh farm ingredients with no artificial ingredients and no nitrates or hormones. Patrons will be able to choose their own toppings, which are laid out in front of them, to create their own half smoke creations to match their taste buds.
Combined with their quality sausages, fresh ingredients and D.C.’s taste for half smokes, this new trendy restaurant has the ability to grab its Shaw residents and knock Chipotle right out of the park as soon as it opens!
